Establishment of Juvenile Justice Committee Secretariat

  • Re: Exploitation of Children in Orphanages in the State of Tamil Nadu vs. Union of India and Ors. (05.05.2017), the Court had stated -
               ‘While the Juvenile Justice Committee in each High Court is performing its role in ensuring the implementation of the JJ Act and Model Rules, there is no doubt that each Committee will require a small Secretariat by way of assistance. We request each Juvenile Justice Committee to seriously consider establishing a Secretariat for its assistance and we direct each State Government and Union Territory to render assistance to the Juvenile Justice Committee of each High Court and to cooperate and collaborate with the Juvenile Justice Committee in this regard’

  • On 2nd August 2016, there was a meeting between Hon’ble Shri Justice J.K Maheshwari, Chairperson, JJC and Representative of UNICEF, Bhopal where first time UNICEF Bhopal proposed establishment of Secretariat Office in High Court of Madhya Pradesh on the lines of Allahabad High Court. UNICEF was ready to cooperate and provide funds if the State Government is ready to fund their part in the suggested Secretariat of JJC. In principle it was agreed in the meeting that UNICEF will carry their out their part of the funding. In the light of meeting a letter was written to the Chief Secretary, Government of Madhya Pradesh and Principal Secretary, Department of Women & Child Development, Bhopal to take initiative in the establishment of Secretariat and bear their part of financial burden and make it operative as early as possible. (Finally, at present, from 1st April 2021, the Department of Women & Child Development, Bhopal is financially supporting 3 staff members (2 Data Entry Operators & 1 Office Assistant) of Secretariat, JJC.

          On 17th April 2018 Secretariat of Juvenile Justice Committee was inaugurated by Hon’ble The Chief Justice Hemant Gupta in presence of Hon’ble Chairperson Shri Justice J.K Maheshwari and Member Hon’ble Smt. Anjuli Palo, of the Committee.
